Deadwood sucks! Nothing but casinos. We went. Didn’t make it 30 minutes & left.
I use to live in South Dakota
Good morning
I actually like crazy horse better the Rushmore, I like the laser light show at night is cool too
I love devils tower
I appreciate the helpful tips! We’ll be going there (1st visit) in a few weeks😃🚙🦬
Thanks for information, hoping to be there next week
Im not a biker & never will be! Mom & brother well thats a different story! But i do stay in Sturgis on most visits to South Dakota! So yes i avoid the noise of Augusts bike week!
The bikes scared the life away the place we’re my people live ….. This is gross to watch all these dead souls
My brothers live in SouthbDakota-one in Soux Falls, other in Rapid City. I am in Greenville,North Carolina. When I go to Rapid City-always vist Mount Rushmore,Badlands,Crazyhorse, and Wall Drug. Always visit in the summer when the attractions are operating and the weather is best. Winter is just too cold and snow. This is an excellent little video-love the enthusiastic and bubbly-happy presentation!
First time on your channel! Good explanation and information on sites! After reading most of the posts here not one person mentioned Nemo! It’s a beautiful place in a beautiful canyon and about half way between Sturgis and Rapid City. Oh it on the back roads.
Don’t pet the fluffy cows. Don’t do selfies with the bears.
My Most favorite trip to any area I have ever been to. The beauty of this place and the Badlands cannot be described and picture do not do it justice. Amazingly beautifull place.
HEY WOLTER’S MOM, HE GOT YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENT ALREADY!😉🤣
We’ve been going to the black hills four or five times a year for over 25 years. The one thing I’ll say is if you plan on staying in Deadwood eat in Sturgis or Spearfish before you go there. Unicorns are easier to find than food in Deadwood. There are some food places but it’s a gamble if they are open and if you catch one open the waiting lines will be forever long. I’m surprised that the businesses in Deadwood haven’t figured it out after all these years. We like The Knuckle in Sturgis, Luckys in Spearfish, or Cheyenne Crossing at the end of Spearfish Canyon.
We have visited the Black Hills several times. Each time we found more to see. It is an amazing experience.
Going after Labor Day has its advantages. No crowds and the room rates are considerably lower than summer.
Looking forward to going back soon.
I have one for you…………………. DON’T COME HERE AT ALL! It Sucks here.
My great great grandpa was the "justice of the peace" of Deadwood. And he is buried in the graveyard he mentioned at the beginning.
But, if you’re like me, you live 45m from everything in the Southern Black Hills. Even during the non "terrorist" seasons (Yeah, that’s what most locals refer to visitors as — which is their primary source of income). Everything will be booked, and hotels will be in excess of $400.
🇺🇲👍👍👍👍
I live here and I recommend going to Custer state park if you want to see wildlife
The bus tour at deadwood is neat but other than that I’m not a huge fan of it with kids. I feel like when they were little all I did while were were there was say no LOL
Thank you for your video!
wow its a big town for only 15 hundred ppl living in it.
Also, bike week. I was in the hills once for it, never again. "Traffic jams" is the key word here. I get that during the weekly commute. Go riding out before or after…..unless you like huge crowds and sitting with your feet down on the road waiting.
I LOVE CRAZY HORES
For some one who has never been further west than the Mississippi, this video seems very helpful. Hoping to visit the Blackhills in 2022
Thanks for the information. It was very helpful.
Very nice presentation. I have been to Mt. Rushmore a dozen times and to Keystone and Rapid City but when we were working, we were usually headed for Yellowstone and we just sort of passed through. I wish I had taken more time to visit all the other towns in the region. The Black Hills are an over looked gem by many people. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the U.S. I wish more stuff was open after Labor day because that is when we travel the most because we don’t like the big crowds.
Desperado’s in Hill City has a tasty bison and elk burger.
Hill city is awesome take the steam train to keystone hang out then come back on train very cool experience
How do you climb Mount Rushmore and get to the secret cave?
Is crazy horse woke ?
Driving by Mount Rushmore is a must. However going into the actual facility can be skipped. In the last 25 years they completely ruined it as it’s a concrete jungle with frozen yogurt stands. It used to be a very rustic setting with pines and natural surroundings, now it’s littered with parking ramps and mortar. Commercialized to the tilt. Viewing the lower section of the facility is an eye-sore. They disguise high power transmission poles in the northern hills better than how that facility was refurbished… It’s a shame, but the park service truly turned it into a metro shopping mall.
I’m going Wyoming this September with a rosdtrip to South Dakota planned and I’m really looking forward to see Crazy Horse.
One big reason why it’ll probably another couple centuries until it’s finished it that it’s probably not publicly funded so no South Dakotan subsidies worth billions of dollars, no billionairs donor.
So, it’s likely just fi anced by visitors buying souvenirs and getting a plate of food or donating a couple bucks.
Whent it is finished, it’ll probably more impressive than mt Rushmore (which is by itself already iconic).
Btw. Wolters sounds dutch,.
Mark, do you have any dutch ancestry?
Great video on the main points of the Black Hills. I would say another don’t is don’t forget to go through Needles Highway. Beautiful views with hiking as well.
really useful, thanks
I could sleep to this gentlemen talking.
As a local, please don’t feed our livestock (mainly horses). Cheetos, Twinkies, and junk like that can wreak havoc on an equine’s digestive system, especially after a few dozen tourists have stopped and done the same before you! lol
Staying in Deadwood next two days …love this place, don’t miss it!
Currently here and let me tell you. This place is so underrated. Go to South Dakota it’s so worth the road trip. I’m here on a budget and believe me California to South Dakota and back easily thousand. With hotels. It’s all about budgeting.
if you plan to go to Deadwood during any event . bring a parking spot with. as there is very limited parking in the canyon
I loved and used the tips from your Florida Keyes Video, Ill use this for our Dakota trip! thanks so much
Other don’ts. Don’t try to pet the rattle snakes. Don’t take selfies next to the Buffalo. Don’t try to climb Mt. Rushmore. Don’t insult the people in the motorcycle clubs. And last but not least, don’t drive your 40 foot RV through Needles Highway for reasons that are obvious.
Red Cloud’s Folk is a good book by George E. Hyde.
…and don’t be surprised if people stare at you if you’re wearing a bronytail off the back of your noggin! lol
Trying to plan a long road trip from Alabama. We want to see as much as possible. Could Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse be a day trip?
Sir, I really appreciate you and everything you said in this video. We just attended our 1st Sturgis event and I appreciate the fact that you did not “bad mouth” motorcyclists as we have been asked many times if we were afraid to go to a “biker rally” (bad guys) go there? Happily just the opposite, we have reservations for next year just because of the beauty we saw during our (not nearly enough) time while there! Camping included and we can’t hardly wait so we decided to arrive earlier than before and will be RVing it for, who knows how long? LOL I also appreciate you pointing out that there are some places you might want to avoid taken your children to. Anyway, 👍👍👍AWESOME VIDEO
Don’t forget to tell them about the backside of Mt. Rushmore (driving around to see them from a different angle on the bottom). Don’t miss the helicopter flight between Hill City and Custer. It flies right up to Crazy Horse (or extended flights) and across my families property.
I went to see Crazy Horse 53 years ago… it hasn’t changed… when did Mt. Rushmore become something Silly to Visit? And then there is the question of Custer Park is it still a state park or national monument? It’s beautiful.
