Hello friend. I’m heading to Portland in a day or two and I hope to bring a pan with me from Massachusetts. Could you recommend a spot within a couple of hours of the big city. I’m not asking you to be a spot burner but a helpful hint would be cool. The ball and chain will be with me so I wont have much time but I would like to give it a shot. Have a great day.

Every place on the map where gold hasn’t been found is buried under Pliocene lava flows or buried by Pleistocene lake deposits. Klamath basin is a huge dead zone for gold. Opalite mercury with trace gold is found but has little value. Bly Mountain has gold but a company in Colorado has the rights tied up. Every 10 years they assay it and decide it’s too costly then keep the rights anyway. This practice needs to end! Shit, or get off the pot to quote my grandpa! Why not put a limit in place of how long you can keep a claim if you aren’t digging it?

Great Video… as a kid fishing some 40 years ago I once picked up little Gold Nuggets near Grants Pass…. literally took the hooks out of my plastic case and started dropping little nuggets into it instead…I think it had more to do with just after a rain when the river went up and then dropped back down, they were all in little crevices of old volcanic rock. Anyway, been on a lot of rivers in Southern Oregon and not saying you will get rich but it’s still fun to pan when I go back there.

I find it all over here. Eagle creek, Mollala River, Cheeney creek, Ogle mining district, Clackamas river past Estacada. FINDING ALOT OF SOLID SILVER TOO. Nothing to get rich over, but if you keep hunting, you’ll find….History excluded ALOT from OREGON. Probably because ground saturation and the California Rush kept Oregon on kinda a back burner. Its our lil secret.

I live in Portland, I was thinking of going up to where the sandy river starts out from mt.hood and looking there although there hasn’t been any mining there. Do you think that’s a good idea or should I just stick to areas that other people found some?
