This is the second video in a series explaining where to find gold and other rare minerals in all 50 states. This video is about the great state of Texas! Our goal is to help people living in or visiting Texas to go out, explore, and prospect. This video is the subject of the metals, minerals, and fossils there are to find in the state.
The fore mentioned minerals in this video consist of topaz, quartz crystals, agate, onyx, pyrite, feldspar crystals, mica, garnet, Llanonite (only found in Llano, TX), gold, fluorite, hematite, blue quartz, smoky quartz, silver, tourmaline, types of opals.
The areas in which these minerals can be found in are EL Paso, Fort Stockton, Llano River Area, Llano County, Howard County, Taylor County, Irion County, Uvalde County, Williamson County, The Llano uplift, Barringer Hill, Lake Buchanan, Presidio Mine, Shafter, Presidio County, Van Horn-Allamoore district, Hudspeth County, Culberson County, Town of Mason, Mason County, Sierra Blanca Peaks, Van Horn, Hudson Prospect, Calamet Prospect, Maltby Prospect, Catahoula, The Amethyst Mountains, Sullivan City, Hidalgo County, Laredo, Webb County, Mineral Wells, and The Big Bend region.

Good ole Texas. As you mentioned though, much of Texas land is privately owned….and Texans takes trespassing serious. So for sure do your research. The only Gold mine I know of in Texas is on a private ranch down around Presidio. I was actually given a ride around the property and saw the old mine. This was back when gold was $800oz and climbing. The owner didn’t have any interest in reopening the mine then and could careless about it now. Such a beautiful piece of land as well.

I know this is an old video, but dang I had to say this. Y’all gave this man, that is making a very well done informative video, such a hard time about pronouncing Llano. Some of y’all made these comments, telling him how to pronounce it incorrectly, making yourselves look dumb. Llano is a Spanish word that means flat, double L is a Y sound in Spanish. The more you know. Thanks for the video man. It was very helpful.

Son, you may have been born in Texas, but you don’t know a lot about Texas or you would know how to pronounce Llano, Presidio, etc. And if you actually do live here, shame on you for not learning the proper pronunciation.

Just FYI, Llano is pronounced Yawno (the L’s are silent or pronounced as a Y.) The word is Spanish. It’s commonly mispronounced by people north of Waco so don’t feel bad. 😊

Ok…native Texan here. If you come down and want to search the Llano River, don’t call it the Yano as some "experts" are saying. It is of course a Spanish word but it’s pronounced Lano, just ignore all the "proper" instructions. Oh and Welcome to Texas…have fun

My father worked for the electric company here in Texas or 33 and a half years. Back then it was called TP &L. He found and I remember him taking us out to an entire piece of land covered in petrified wood. It must have been a forest at one time. It was so much of it you had trouble not stepping on it as you went. I believe it’s private property now.
