How much $ value in gold can be realistically panned? I would think most of the gold was already mined by companies.

Most of the places shown are all claimed up. There are some tourist spots where you can actually pan for gold (try upper Lynx Creek along Walker Road, above Lynx Lake). Anybody wishing to come prospect, should learn how to use BLM (Bureau of Land Management) LR2000 Database. If you find a place you are interested in, you MUST make certain there is not an active claim, or you could run into big trouble if the claimholder finds you working their legal claim. You would legally be a "Claim Jumper" (and we all know what happens to claim jumpers in the mountains). Best thing ANYBODY can do is to get involved with a good club. People there will keep you clear of trouble. You can also be introduced around if you go to a mining/prospecting shop (like A&B Prospecting).

Along with gold and silver, there’s also plenty of copper in AZ. For precious and semi-precious gems and minerals, turquoise, opal, peridot, malachite and amethyst. 😎👍🏻

Good time to pan the streams after a good monsoon washes out the sediments and creates new deposits in the stream beds!
