More than likely hidden during the Civil war. Both sides would show up at families homes and take what they wanted.

  2. Buckeye Silver 614 on July 6, 2023 at 10:16 am

i wonder if it was a theft from a war in the past and he wes shot running away from a battle after having stole it and died there and was just covered by earth over time

  11. Countrygal weaver on July 6, 2023 at 10:35 am

Bless their heart how lucky can they get!

  12. Truth Lives on July 6, 2023 at 10:38 am

Now we know that Bill Carson did not bury all the Gold in the Cemetery.

  13. Charles Larson on July 6, 2023 at 10:39 am

It would be interesting to know how much of the discovery the Government claimed. Gotta fund that Ukranian war and the Biden Family Retirement Fund!

  17. medgasguy on July 6, 2023 at 10:41 am

This reminds me of one of my purchases years ago from the Lanson Champagne hoard in France and to the more recently discovered Saddle Ridge hoard out in California. Very exciting.

  18. Chai Charin on July 6, 2023 at 10:41 am

2.4 million worth holy smokes….imagine all the hidden stolen gold and gems when Germany invaded Europe that still has yet to be found.

  19. Accountability Audits on July 6, 2023 at 10:42 am

I would have probably had a heart attack if I dug that up. Not from the digging but from the absolute shock and awe of what was just found and how improbable the odds of even landing on that spot. Legends and lore makes us all want more!

  20. Accountability Audits on July 6, 2023 at 10:43 am

Guaranteed this land owner had all his fields scanned with GPR after this find. FOR SURE

  21. Sid Colwell on July 6, 2023 at 10:43 am

Nice.!!! With almost a roll of the 1863’s would that hurt the price with that many found at once? I’d still take what I can.πŸ‘

Any European state would have confiscated everything and given the finder a few crumbs if lucky.

  26. Alvin Wells on July 6, 2023 at 10:51 am

    1 in a million. I’ll keep looking

  31. typeviic1 on July 6, 2023 at 10:58 am

That long ago, it was probably buried in the woods.

  32. D S on July 6, 2023 at 10:58 am

Can you imagine how many more sites are yet to be discovered ? I remember a highway exit ramp being built thru an old farm property and a bulldozer unearthed jars of silver with pre 30 dates. My guess is a farmer didn’t trust banks and past on without letting anyone else know. Congratulations to whomever finds such items and brings them back to the collecting world.

  33. Macho4x4Warlock on July 6, 2023 at 10:58 am

Should never use a media announcement for this type of find. The Big Guy is going to want a cut.

  34. Frank Boston on July 6, 2023 at 11:01 am

If I ever tell people I found something of value in a KY cornfield, it was actually in an OK wheat field πŸ˜…

  35. William Tell on July 6, 2023 at 11:02 am

Wow.. What a discovery. He was breathing pretty hard in his video. Take your breath away for sure. Wonder why GovMint? Like mentioned in another comment..slowly send them off for authentication/grading. Nothing says more then Government get in my pockets like a video and name associated as with the video / announcement.

Maybe one of those Rebel Bushwackers buried it ~ John Hunt Morgan of the 2nd KY Cavalry?

  41. phononut on July 6, 2023 at 11:09 am

What a great find but I think it was a mistake broadcasting it on the news.
    Should’ve kept it quite.

  42. Mr V Rose on July 6, 2023 at 11:09 am

Dang, is that where I left them?! Say again who found them?! Amazing find!

  43. Tree3 Climber on July 6, 2023 at 11:11 am

    The Real ….CIVIL War Gold

  44. James Robinson on July 6, 2023 at 11:12 am

The government will be right there to rip him off. The same thing happens with shipwreck treasure. The government steps in with its hands out looking for a piece of the action. If he was smart, he should have kept quiet on the find and sent them into NGC over time without going public.

  45. Homestead Aquarius on July 6, 2023 at 11:13 am

    Incredible find!

  46. John La Rue on July 6, 2023 at 11:13 am

Wow. What an incredible find! Love stories like this. I appreciate their wanting to keep it quiet, otherwise everyone and their sister Fred will be trying to metal detect the family farm! Well done Daniel and to the finder, congratulations!
