Around 1999/2000 when I was in High School. I went on a sailing trip with the Boy Scouts. This was one of our stops where we swam ashore. I remember seeing and probably have pictures of all the buildings, theater, bars, ect. There were even abandoned jet skis. Now over 20 years later I just learned about what happened to that hidden gem and what a shame. They should have at least incorporated some of the old structures into their plans.

I’m from Ohio and the whole state is becoming abandoned. I never heard of either of these because there’s abandoned stuff everywhere in Ohio. If you haven’t covered it cover the Mansfield steel mills. They were absolutely huge and now all that remains are the concrete pads and the Columns. It looks like something out of the hunger games.

1:09 I’ve been to this water park, it looked like it was abandoned even while it was still in operation. Also that big drop water slide hurt like hell

  19. Lemerbrix on May 28, 2023 at 8:09 am

To be honest, the whole story of this experience sounds amazing

  20. Sean Harvey on May 28, 2023 at 8:09 am

Odd thing too add but the "Abaondoned water park in emrald Isle" seen at 1:08 is actually been renovated and re-opened as of 2022.

I worked for Premier in the late 80’s onboard the starship majestic we visited the abaco island featured in this film regularly, it was great fun, we had a very late sail from the island which meant a bbq and party ashore every visit. The beach on the other side was accessed by a rough track back in the day which passengers used a tractor type of transport and crew walked. Fine by the day but in the evening this track was home to millions of bitting bugs so the crew got attacked. Lovely beach on the other side and have memories of diving with sharks. The evenings at the bbq and party were epic. Loved the place.

Speaking with the co-CEO is so heartbreaking. He seemed so happy and proud of his work, and it sounds so exciting to have been apart of — as crew or guest! It’s sad this failed, it would have been so fun today…what a shame.

Imagine some yankee coward of a man buying your country and turning it into a golf course. Oh we won’t kill all the birds, will you shut up now? Those people don’t understand why people hate them.

  27. joe mama on May 28, 2023 at 8:12 am

4:42 "They would kidnap some of the passengers and literally put them in chains."

From a PR standpoint, I can see that backfiring terribly, even if prearranged.

It’s so sad and frustrating to see all that untouched forest was cleared and native animal species wiped out just for stupid golf course which they can construct anywhere else. I hope that business fall apart and abandoned and the forest grow back in time

  35. Ashley Fadhel on May 28, 2023 at 8:25 am

My father was part of the crew that built the stores on the island. It very much does exist. He remembers some of the things in the pictures like the long pier, he says he swam with dolphins there. He stayed in hotel in Treasure Cay and then would take a fairy to Treasure Island for work.

  37. thetobyg on May 28, 2023 at 8:26 am

    All so stupidly American

  38. D ODay on May 28, 2023 at 8:27 am

What a tragedy, practically clear cutting that island for yet another millionaire playground. Hope the hurricane gods get their revenge.
Of course, every cruise line now has its private island resort. On our cruise, I thought something was odd about the beach. I swept aside some of the sand, and there was a concrete pad underneath! I guess the original “island” was little more than a mass of low lying rock used as a foundation for a massive man made pad.

  39. Louie on May 28, 2023 at 8:28 am

Why had no one explore this place makes no sense

  40. Disney4Life on May 28, 2023 at 8:31 am

Well, I think I can make Mowgli’s Palace come into reality when I work at Disney. That way, you guys can not only experience the hotel and relax there, but you can also meet and greet Mowgli there as well along with Baloo.

  42. Sara Gordon on May 28, 2023 at 8:32 am

I used to go there as a kid!! It was very cool and lots of abandoned shacks and even old jet skis. It was made into a very high end property for celebrities and the Uber rich. There are still places open to the public on the island. It is called great guana cay. Most popular are nippers beach bar and grabbers beach bar. Both on beautiful beaches with great food and drinks! I am grateful I got to see some of the abandoned areas before they were torn down and redone. Abaco is an absolutely gorgeous gem of the Bahamas. Proud to call it home.

  43. TGCwolfie on May 28, 2023 at 8:33 am

That Emerald Isle NC rumor park still is a pretty popular story around here. Also the water park you showed isn’t a Abandoned its call the salty pirate and operates

  44. Jason Velasquez on May 28, 2023 at 8:34 am

Kinda fucked up that the company decided on skipping the Disney Island and instead decided on just heading straight to Nassau just to cut costs. 🤦‍♂️ that’s wrong

  45. theblackprince_1775 on May 28, 2023 at 8:37 am

they RUINED that island….a GOLF COURSE?!?!?! how boring and unimaginative….they WRECKED THAT ISLAND
So sad that they didn’t see beauty and adventure in that wonderful wilderness the island had to offer
stupid people with no brains and too much money

  46. Kimberly Ann on May 28, 2023 at 8:37 am

I used to go to that water park when I was a child in Emerald Isle lol. I have pictures in photo albums in the early 90s of me there. That wasn’t the site of Disney’s MOWGLI’S PALACE.

  47. Geoff Strickler on May 28, 2023 at 8:41 am

My first cruise was on Premier Cruise Lines, and one of the options we considered was going to Treasure Cay, but we couldn’t get the pricing and availability we needed for the ~20 people we had going on the cruise, so we ended up going to the Bahamas.

Sad to see what the developers did to a beautiful island. Woulda been super cool to build swiss Family robinson treehouses or something. Something that would have worked with the forest instead of totally destroying it.
