What an amateurish script, at so many levels, screwing-up its otherwise potential.
I won’t bother to list ~10 major inconsistencies in this script.

The daughter is the only character that "fits", everything else are misfits. 😞

fun fact to some of you younger viewers, just in case anyone was sceptical, yes it was a real Polar Bear. i know sometimes a wild animal can look like the real thing, but only in fictional horror films like Jaws or Deep Blue Sea is when it’s not the real thing. Thora Birch was an advocate for animal rights as a child and teenage actress in the 90’s to let them live in there natural habitat without human interference. Polar Bears in particular are often hunted for there skin and fur, not to mention the amount of toxic pollution that gets dumped into the Arctic and Alaska all the time, especially back then. well anyway she was in a couple of movies featuring an animal, one was a Spider Monkey and the other was a Polar Bear, both ended up being good films for her. this Polar Bear named Cubby was most likely raised in captivity, because the other Polar Bears you saw was apart of the wild, they just got them in the film to go with the movies, but the Cub was probably trained. the part in the helicopter is a dead giveaway, although i have to question whether he actually picked up that Bear. Cub Polar Bears can weigh up to 300 pounds, and he looked heavier, so im gonna guess that was a prop.
another thing i wonder is, did they actually shoot this in Alaska or was it the Pole. i don’t think they were that far, but there was one scene where they show Greenland and the ice glacier. maybe they just captured footage from different places, but some of the landscape looked like Russia and the Artic circle. still it’s a great movie.
