Giants are culturally significant to many of the island of new britain which isnt too far from the solomons. the stories will fry your brain but they are plenty and they vivid. It also ties into the volcanics of that region.

When I was a kid my grandmother used to tell me about giant stories. He said the giant would come out at night and snatch pigs and human from villages and vanish into the mountains.

What I find most fascinating is that all of these cultures identify these giants to have all had reddish colored hair, 6 fingers on each hand, their stature being within 10-15 feet tall, and that they were all cannibals who feed on and drank the blood of the local human population. Like you stated, none of these cultures were in contact with one another but yet they all share the same basic characteristics and stories detailing an inhuman race of evil giants.
