I went down into the pit at the Brewer Mine back in the 1980’s before it closed with a rockhound club trip. It was during the summer and was over 90 degrees down in the pit. A couple of people found a few specs of gold visible on the ore. I was more interested in the accessory minerals and managed to find some pyrite crystals and more interestingly, galena coating native bismuth and some massive topaz. The Brewer mine was one of the very few good localities for topaz in the south and it was extremely scarce even there.
