Cherokee Almanac: Discovery of Colorado Gold

“Gold found,” reads a June, 1850 entry in Cherokee gold prospector John Lowery Brown’s journal. This was the first documentation of gold in present-day Colorado, and it was a group from the Cherokee Nation that discovered the mineral that led to the Colorado gold rush.
