David Leith Anderson Hawaiian Treasure
Leith Anderson stopped by the shop to have his car serviced. I turned on the camera, and he told me about his early days surfing in Waikiki and the earliest discovery of surfing at Makaha. He actually made his own hollowed redwood surfboard and was good friends with surfing icon George Downing.
Leith’s uncle was the famous Outrigger Canoe Club coach and waterman Dad Center who was the USA assistant swimming coach who took Duke Kahanamoku and other Hawaii boys to the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp.
Leith is also the son of legendary Hawaii songwriter R. Alex Anderson (known for such famous hapa haole tunes as ‘Lovely Hula Hands’ and ‘Mele Kalikimaka’.)
Thanks for the props. aloha Kyle
