Don’t forget about the placer deposit found near Orinoco in south east Minnesota. It is documented that several ounces were pulled out on the 1850s or so. Some say there may be a sizeable deposit there…

The problem with Minnesota is that you can not just put up a claim. Mineral rights in MN is a very complex, and most are owned by the state or corporations. Most of the area has been core sampled, and companies are currently drill sampling for gold deposits in all the northern areas you have shown in the video. You can own the land but the minerals under the land most likely do not transfer with the deed. You are only allowed to prospect with a pan, hand tools, and create no more damage than if you were swimming. to use a sluice or dredge you will need many permits and a mining plan… not to mention it is very expensive, and not for the average hobbyist prospector. Most of the bedrock is covered by 80+ feet of glacial till. The North East part of the state has less glacial till cover.

There’s way more gold than just by the x’s here in Rochester it’s in every creek as long as it’s natural material and not city water (I’m a Minnesota 13 year old gold prospector)

There are extensive green stone deposits in northern Minnesota. This is where I’ve found small samples of gold. The town of Tower has both massive iron deposits but also some gold in addition to green stone in the area.
While there is indeed extensive deposits of minerals you have to keep in mind they are tied up in deep formations that are very difficult to find because of over burden.

A guy I talked to at a nearby park has been finding some but as you said its just flour "glacial gold" and it has taken him years to partially fill a vial. It still inspired me to buy a panning kit and start testing out the rivers and streams around here. I’m not concerned with making any $ from it, I just want to be able to say I found gold in Minnesota. Glaciers have really worn down and spread out the gold, then covered all of the bedrock in 10s or 100s of a feet of glacial till. The Blue Earth county area I live in use to be covered by proglacial Lake Minnesota that was about the size of the Twin Cities metro area. It suddenly drained at end of the last ice age when the flood waters from Lake Aggasiz broke the glacial damn that was holding it. Now 5 rivers meet within a small area south Mankato before joining with the Minnesota River. I am hoping the resulting valley scars and relatively fast moving water have helped concentrate some of that glacial gold fluff. =)

Now only if the Minnesota state bird AKA mosquitoes weren’t out in full force

We are in northern California what would be the best way to prospect in a small stream with high water normally it’s only 4 ft wide and 3-4 inches deep now it’s 8 ft wide and 3ft deep small gold with pickers in creek any ideas
