I grew up here. Found my first cob in 1988 right off T? trail. It was a pretty stormy year. So the beach was getting its butt CUT. Found more gold and silver in…. ok more Gold in Oregon and California technically, but more "treasure" in Florida than any other state next to Massachusetts (great land finds in Ma!!). Going down this season and moving home in Sept. Don’t care if I find anything it’s just fun as hell to know you can. But you gotta know where and that my friends I am not saying. 😉 but best of luck.

it was not uncommon to use a cannon as a safe for valuables. once the goods were inserted the tip of the bore would then be sealed with a lead plug sealing the treasure within.
They take 50% of what you find ?? That’s straight bullshit also that they own rights to the waterways how is that legal
With all the gold Fisher found, I’m surprised there is anything left worth detecting for. Treasure is treasure no matter on land or in the sea. I’m a scuba diver and what I find in the water is mine. There has to be a depth where salvage rights are claimed. Or there should be markers or bouys that you can’t go passed. I’m not going to call a salvage company if I find a gold coin in 5’ of water. The coin would be mine, I found it!

Problem is, Florida now stakes claim to any man made object, that’s more than 50yrs old.
That law is rumored to have come about due to so many people collecting prehistoric artifacts, but now only a fool would declare any discovered shipwreck/treasure.
People are still aggressively hunting for them, but the days of sharing the information, are long gone.

I think there should be a rule where using boats to excavate should not be aloud unless far off coast it would be fair p.s. I have a boat as well but seems unfair to just blow around the sand rather than people actually searching while underwater
