Historic Elkhorn Gold Mine – Montana – 2016

The Elkhorn is likely one of the most productive, but undervalued abandoned mines in all of the western states. The old gold and silver mine is documented to have over 14 miles of drifting and workings on at least 3 well defined levels. It is one of the largest gold mines ever to be seen in Montana and still contains billions of dollars in reserves of gold, silver and copper.

This is one of the neatest mines that I have been to, and easy to find.

I was curious, is the mine entrance up top, or down below near Coolidge Ghost Town ?

I visited this mine over the summer (wondered around outside and took in the sights)

I think I found the watchfox you stationed at the trailhead. Perhaps you could increase his salary so he doesn’t sneak food from peoples lunches 😉
