Octagonal metal box is what they used to deliver movies to the theatre. Big reels of film.UA could be United Artists. I used to work at the theatres while going to college and saw many of those over the years. How did it get way out there??

Saw a poster in an eatery along a RR track in a small town in Georgia that was hobo signals. They would carve messages on trees and such. Wonder if that was what was on the tree?

The UA box was an artifact that should have been retrieved and given to the smithsonian or another museum. It is worth something, and part of history.

the box you found was a film container from united artist films , old reels of film were carried from one theater to another in them .
that u.a box is a united army lockbox for cached ammo/weapons/grenades
