Sierra Mountains Hidden Treasures // Lost & Found

Sierra Mountains Hidden Treasures // Lost & Found

Trails inevitably come and go, but rarely are they lost forever. In California’s Northern Sierra Nevada, between Downieville and Sierra City, the area’s mining history contributed to a network of trails that faded away with the Gold Rush. But now, recreation has begun their resurrection, contributing to the local small-town economies and preserving the area’s rich history. Professional mountain biker Eric Porter and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship’s trail whisperer Kurt Gensheimer spent a week in the Lost Sierra this past fall, riding forgotten trails and finding a different kind of wealth than the area is known for.

Awesome feature guys. Loved reading this article and stoked to see some riding to go along with it. Growing up in a gold rush town here in the Sierras, it’s fun to see some of these old trails being explored again! Met Kurt a few weeks back and his enthusiasm for adventure made me want to get out on some new trails.

Simply one of the best videos out there that’s what it all about, totally my favorite kind of riding, my favorite trail in my area is very similar to that but most people wont ride it because it’s not perfectly groomed

Great video ! When I tell someone I’m from California and I get the now typical sarcastic response about out politicians, I point out the many beautiful things about our state. Many people limit their vision of California to the cities and the politicians. Even my corner of the Bay Area-Clayton and Mt. Diablo is nothing like their impression of the State. Thanks guys and Freehub for showing a special place in California.
