Spanish Treasure Marker Along the Old Spanish Trail

Spanish Treasure Marker Along the Old Spanish Trail

I locate a Spanish treasure marker along the Old Spanish Trail while out hunting. This huge rock marker points the way to an old gold mine. According to George Thompson in his book Lost Treasures on the Old Spanish Trail, many old mines are located near this area on Fish Lake National Forest. A large Turtle marker points the way to the statue of the Virgin Mary and perhaps a church mine.

Thanks for posting this. It doesn’t sound plausible to me that a rock cairn like this one could stand for over 200 years in the New Mexico temperature extremes & winds. It would seem to me that the expansion & contraction with the temperature extremes would cause enough movement over time to bring such a cairn down. This cairn looks new & pristine.

That is cool, she will slap ya if you can’t see her! Do you see the multiple faces all wearing the same hat with her hands as the brim? One straight on and two at profile with possibly one looking down just from that one vantage point. Walk with her and who knows what she will turn into next. It would be fun to meet some of these guys that created these works of art for only a few fools like us to see if we are lucky. Thanks for sharing this your in some historic land there!

It’s always when people are hunting. My buddy was up in Wyoming hunting elk and said while he was tracking in the wilderness he found an old town with buildings and everything that wasn’t on the map

There’s an unambiguous Virgen right above Ben Brown’s Hole (possible El Chato Nevarez site) in Dona Ana County, New Mexico. That one is a petroglyph, though. There’s a pic on my site somewhere, or maybe just in the book. I like the little arms on your stacked-rock one. Have not seen it that obvious before.

Jesuits were known as the followers of Jesus and made many markers of Jesus not Mary. they were also known to put a round rock at an entrance to mines and caves to close them as the round rock in front of the tomb Jesus was laid in. look half way down the hill below the marker and what do you see?
