Today I went magnet fishing at an old bridge and ended up finding something that was never supposed to be found! I found a gun in the river with a scratched off seal number and a ammo crate that was tied to something to hold it down!

As the wife of a 30 yr police officer, even I know the deputies should have taken gun. The officers ( and I use that term loosely) should have taken the gun without being told. Be sure you have those officers names and save this video. That one would be lazy enough to just try to pin it on you.

There is really only one reason you find a semi without the barrel.. it can’t be tested for ballistics.
If you ever find a firearm with an altered or obliterated serial number and the responding officers aren’t interested and ask you if you want to keep it, the answer is "no". That’s an automatic felony charge and up to ten years in prison if you get caught with that.
Seems like those officers didn’t wanna take it in because there’d be a lot of paperwork to go along with a weapon that was altered to prevent tracing or ballistics test, which would give reasonable suspicion that it was used in a crime. You could see the "I don’t wanna deal with that" in their eyes.
