I first read about this in 2010, but the hunt was further east. I even used it as inspiration for my first novel, Rightfully Ours, which takes place in the Williamsport, PA area. I’d love to see the gold recovered.

If you’ve every accounted for dead union soldiers on that detail especially excuted in that way with abandon wagons toward the end of the Civil War I’m sure that gold is no where in Pennsylvania and the ambush took a lot of planning likely a inside job or Confederate raiders!! FBI chasing a dead end myth long gone into somebody else’s hand and likely the gold has been laundered to erase it’s orgin.
