  9. Johnny Rotten on August 17, 2022 at 10:18 am

    SSS…..
If you never share your discovery (and let’s be clear, it was YOUR discovery), no one would be the wiser.
The state should be kept completely in the dark…..
The government will do nothing but TAKE what YOU worked for, as if THEY "owned" it…..
Right or wrong, that’s 99.9% of what the government does……they take what you earn……and anything they give back, they do so as a "favor" to you.
    F***’em!……don’t tell them $#!t!

This was published almost 5 years ago. What was the resolution of the story?

  11. John Martell on August 17, 2022 at 10:19 am

guarantee you the safe is empty

  12. Judith Abbondandolo on August 17, 2022 at 10:21 am

I think people who find it should keep their find, I do believe they should allow archaeologists access for historical purposes. As far as Insurance companies and descendents are concerned if they are not searching or spending the money looking there is no reason they should get anything.

  13. yariv dayan on August 17, 2022 at 10:21 am

good luck in finding the safe

  14. Dan W on August 17, 2022 at 10:23 am

Rule number 1. Never tell the state of Michigan you found safe possibly full of gold. Because now the story will be the state of Michigan found a safe possibly full of gold.

  15. J Demo on August 17, 2022 at 10:25 am

How many times has the courts overruled the states .
California was overruled when a couple found a strongbox full of gold coins in their backyard .

The state only gets part of the tax any time they sell one of the coins .

Michigan has tried to tax liquor used on passenger planes even though the plains don’t land there .
This was in an old Play Boy article back in either late 80’s or early 90’s .

Most times that I’ve heard a state tried to take advantage of a treasure hunt most times the state court has overruled the state quoting " Finders Keepers " witch in its own way is a common law across the country .

Before I had my heart failure I was with the GPAA " Gold Prospectors Association of America " .

This is how I know , between them and keeping track of court rulings of state and federal law .

  21. Cathy Perdue on August 17, 2022 at 10:31 am

Id of kept my mouth shut. How’s anyone going to know unless u open ur mouth. I wouldn’t b saying a word finders keepers..lol

  24. Todd bob on August 17, 2022 at 10:33 am

These idiots are never gonna find Gold.

  25. RC Hobbyist Extreme on August 17, 2022 at 10:33 am

No box cars, no gold. I heard the same story from a friend that used to own a submarine on the great lakes. He told me the same story and told me he hunted for years for that gold. Now all wrecks are protected, nothing gets taken from them. Back in the days he did it. people took everything off wrecks, thats why so many look stripped.

  26. Rodney Daugherty on August 17, 2022 at 10:34 am

Dont really give a shit about the gold . Could be all bullshit . BUT look for a old shipwrecks. Roman, Greek or older. on the west end of Lake Superior they have copper mines and Doug copper mines that date back before Jesus find out about that. Who ever was mining the copper had to get it out of there.

  27. Robert Tucker on August 17, 2022 at 10:35 am

The politicians want it. Even though they had nothing to do with finding it.
The State shouldn’t have any claim to any of it.

  28. Gavin Hudson on August 17, 2022 at 10:36 am

Sounds like the Nazi gold trains in Poland. A myth.

  29. YouTubeAddict on August 17, 2022 at 10:36 am

How do you find an undiscovered shipwreck? It’s not undiscovered anymore

  30. stacy mirba on August 17, 2022 at 10:37 am

The government steals from you everyday. I’m all about returning stolen money from a bank or store that someone has worked for but you have no obligation to report to the government something you found that is decades, perhaps centuries old 120 feet under water.

  31. Simon Koshka on August 17, 2022 at 10:38 am

This reminds me of that episode of American a dad, when he discovers Ollie Norths gold under his house.
"I don’t know about you, but I’m gonna wait till these white folks go to bed, then go dig up that gold!”

  32. Bela Bear on August 17, 2022 at 10:39 am

    I smell somethings fishy

  33. Ronald F on August 17, 2022 at 10:40 am

I believe I would have opened the chest it’s probably deteriorating to the point you could open it by hand with no tools and I would have never spoken another word about it. I have to say these guy’s don’t seem to bright. Now the state will take everything and not even say thank you

  34. Tom Sheets on August 17, 2022 at 10:42 am

I follow many treasure hunts. It’s a very sad legal battle. Hunters spend thousands of hours and millions of dollars in this pursuit. Then they find it and are met with every lazy POS government or insurance entity that lay claim. It’s absurd! Theses laws need to change.

  41. Red Clark on August 17, 2022 at 10:55 am

State of Florida tried take treasure from Mel Fisher, he fought in federal court and won. What he found was worth over 100 million dollar

  42. brandon D on August 17, 2022 at 10:56 am

Why even call the authorities?? Screw that! With the bunch of liberal idiots running the show up there that safe will never see the light of day.

Let me ask a general question ? Do you not think for a moment that with the millions of certified divers in the US & Canada, and after see this series that the subject gold would not have been found yet?
To me it appears that some people have been using Lake Michigan as a dumping ground for construction waste. And them bars down there are actually bricks, pavers, etc. Keeping a 100 million gold bar secret to his death bed seems far fetched. Then again its all about ratings is it not!
I remember awhile back when the was talk about certain objects being stuffed in storage lockers for the program Storage Wars to increase the ratings, there may be truth or not but the hype builds ratings.
    Just my humble opinion.

  48. Cody King on August 17, 2022 at 11:03 am

Yah, it’s called a purser’s safe. There is literally nothing in there any more.

  49. joseph lomsak on August 17, 2022 at 11:05 am

Now these same people are on the history channel as looking for the civil war stolen gold? Just hokey as hell, just like their backers on the search for treasure on Oak Island! The same people are involved including the metal detection expert! On Oak Island? Yes there is something there! Wood at 170 feet? What? Lets watch the story unfold! Record it so you can fast forward thru the thousands of commercials to five minuets of actual story time. LOL

  50. stevensonDonnie on August 17, 2022 at 11:05 am

I would bet the gold followed former southern farmers to Brazil.
