My wife has her dads property in Virginia and on that property is alot of float quartz. The most interesting thing though thats of interest is what we call the big red spot. Its a circular area that covers maybe close to 2 acres that is a dark red clay material. I suspect this is a ancient vulcanic spring or vent. The small seasonal run that passes through when panned show alot pyrite and sulfide material. Just did a very small sample didnt see any free mill gold but certainly extremely mineralized. The ideal way would be to core drill this area but far too costly to afford. Is there a cheaper way to find if they are anything of value. I suspicion even this clay could possibly be of value as a bentonite. All together have about 22 acres available to work on if its worth anything.

I’ve always wanted to find wild gold but I don’t think there’s very much of it in West Virginia if any at all. But I found this very insightful nonetheless.

Very Interesting, Maps are great but the problem is that most if not all gold areas are on private property ,Im in the Richmond area ,The only option I see is to join a club The Gpaa has nothing in Va And then there is the Central Virginia gold prospecting club $100 which is mined to pretty hard,My only options so far, I would like to go panning or run a Sluice box

Cool video great information I live in Chatham Virginia near White Oak Mountain there has been stories of gold in our area wish we could talk more I looked up about a man making his living off gold in the past Mr James Hearp he just lived 10 mins away from my house. His topographic map of the mine was around 800 ft. elevation I live next to a creek about 820 ft. elevation with gullies, & cliffs all around maybe this could be something here too. Alot of pyrite this area is past Dry Fork Virginia 10 mins away headed towarda Callands Virginia.

Obviously you have never hiked those "hills" a three thousand foot climb is no hill. Some are over 5,000 .
During the depression folks cleaned gold out of bottom of pot holes in the James River. I always enjoy your videos. An area near Dillwyn is called Gold Hill.

The streams in Northern VA are loaded with black sand too. The gold and pyrite is rather fine but visible.

    Thank you, awesome information sir.
    – I use similar maps here in Norway to find minerals I am looking for. And the information is usually complete, except for the mines that are very private or military property. In those mines, just the name and nothing is about what it contains.
